Annapolis Blues End Season with dramatic and bright views: ‘We want to be more’

Annapolis Blues won the Central Atlantic Division of the National Premier League each in the last two years and joined the two United soccer league division for 2025. Initially, it seems that Annapolis’s dominance will continue in a more competitive environment.

The Blues began 3-0 with only two goals allowed. But Lionsbridge closed Annapolis in his fourth match, which led to the 4-6-1 finish and the fourth place in the Chesapeake Division after an impressive start.

The club’s third year campaign ended with a 3-3 draw against Charlottesville FC (5-4-5) at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. The Blues (7-6-1)-who experienced an offensive struggle at the time, including only one goal for three home matches in mid-June-Hampir lost through controversy after the slow second half.

Ian Webb-Johnson central defender stumbled with the ball on his own pitch side, which led to an easy score for midfielder Charlotte Luca Estabio in extra time. A few minutes later, midfielder Luke Dunne repeated the bait to the webb-johnson, who once again tangled. Dunne drilled a penalty kick that binded the game to the upper corner of the net, inciting a hoarse reaction from the crowd announced 9,126.

“I don’t want a penalty … this is a make-up call because of what happened at the other end of the field,” said Blues Colin Herriot coach. “But … you can hear the atmosphere tonight, this tells you how many fans think of these children and how many of these children think about this club. So it might be one of my most proud nights since I was here.”

The total presence marked Annapolis’s highest this season behind the opening of the house carrying 12,853 spectators, who set a league record. The Blues averaged almost 9,000 fans per game in 2025, slightly increase from last year’s figures.

Annapolis fans had suffered a controversial defeat against North Virginia last month in a low score match which was sealed by a penalty kick in the 87th minute. But against Charlottesville FC, Blues overcame their total of the match with a pair of goals in the first round from a veteran and another through newcomers.

In the first minute, defender Matty Helfrich passed Sideline to support Emmett Kershner, who pushed the net and launched a shot over goalkeeper Tyler Beck for the first goal of his campaign. Striker Brady Geho stumbled in the box while going for the cross in the 34th minute, which led to a penalty kick.

University Player of St. John drilled a low attack to the corner for his fourth goal in his last four matches. The goal is the ninth of the season and giving him Annapolis’s record of all time.

“This cannot be trusted,” said Geho. “I don’t want to break another record.”

Geho equalized the match after Blues goalkeeper Owen Allegro allowed two goals in three minutes at the beginning of the opening round. Midfielder Charlotte Sam Roberson began an escape with a shot from deflection before Graham midfielder Dougald wrapped the ball over Allegro when he ran out of the cage.

Allegro and High Schooler Zach Cielewich both made it start over the past week, where Annapolis played four matches, after the main goalkeeper Emigdio Tormo Lopez reported back to UMBC. The Blues boast the list of 36 players, among the largest league, gave Herriot several lineup options.

But the crowded Herriot team faced the challenges that were only discovered this year outside the superior competition. The coach and Geho are the same quoting extra journey as one of the main differences.

However, Herriot said that he enjoyed this season the most as Annapolis coach, even though it was the first without a playoff. The Blues continued their increase as one of the Semipro teams that developed the fastest in this country, although the hopes on the Herriot Field only developed.

“I think if it is another team in the league that has seven or eight wins, they will be happy with it,” Herriot said. “We may be victims of our own success, we want more. So in offseason, we will work very hard to ensure improvements are made.”
