BIG3 Returns to Baltimore when City embraces Basketball Pro
Big3 and Baltimore have found each other again.
After stopping at CFG Bank Arena last year, Big3 returned to Baltimore for Sunday 2 season 2025, hosting four matches on Sunday. Founded in 2017 by rapper, ICE Cube actor and filmmaker and Entertainment Executive Jeff Kwatinetz, this league featured a 3-on-3 match with former NBA and International players and unique rules, including four points.
“This is basketball,” said Maurice White from Baltimore, who brought his two sons to the match. “Both of them play, so that must be really needed.”
The presence of Big3 is only the latest example of a developing trend: Baltimore buying basketball. It began with a $ 250 million Bank Arena CFG renovation, reviving the venue and making it the main destination in the city for sports and concerts, with seats, suite, and updated concessions.
Renovation became the main sales point when the city worked with Ciaa to host the postseason basketball tournament. Since the event moved after 15 years in Charlotte, Baltimore has become his home, with the city and conference reaching an agreement to host the tournament until 2029.
“All you have to do is look up, the support of people,” NBA Hall of Famer George Gervin said after his team, Detroit Amps, defeated Miami 305, 50-47, in the opening match on Sunday. “This is a great city. People are excited, and they show.”
Besides Big3 and Ciaa, other leagues follow and bring high -profile basketball back to Baltimore.
Washington Mystics moved their two home matches this season to CFG Bank Arena. Both of these games feature Indiana fever, led by Rookie of the Year WNBA who is in power and All-Star Caitlin Clark. Although Clark missed the first fight because the left front thigh strain, Baltimore will welcome him and fever again on September 7.
This arena will also host two Division I men’s basketball matches on November 15 as part of the Naismith Hall of Fame series. Doubleheader will feature Maryland vs Coppin State and Towson vs. Loyola as part of the two -year agreement.
“It’s not only really smart,” Ice Cube said about choosing Baltimore as a location. “[Basketball] It’s not true that you have been here since the bullet, so happy to have something here. Other leagues need to follow the leader. “
Looking around the arena and seeing most fans sitting and engaged for four matches, ice cubes, players and fans agreed: Baltimore really needs and embraces basketball – and the league will definitely return.
“Always a good crowd here. People carry energy,” said Ice Cube. “We want to grow the league here.”
Some former NBA players traveled to the city for the event, and the excitement of rustling among the crowd when Baltimore Ravens chose the second round of Mike Green and his friends enjoying the action from the Suite, before heading down to take photos with Ice Cube.
“This is good for us to be here,” said NBA champion twice Mario Chalmers, who played for Miami 305, said. “That is something that must be done by the community, and that is for good purposes. Baltimore is always fun.”
Fans have already floated Baltimore ideas which are considered for WNBA expansion. After the league added the team at San Francisco this season, with the expansion team planned for Portland and Toronto, some saw Baltimore as the next natural step.
“Look at what we do for Ravens, we have shown how much we go up for our team here,” White said. “Baltimore is a great sports city. We are ready.”
