Brady Geho Nets Game-Win as Annapolis Blues Men’s Soccer Edges Virginia, 3-1
Facing the situation that must be won, the Annapolis Blues Men’s team maintains the vague playoff hopes on Sunday night.
Striker Brady Geho (Curley, St. John’s) scored the winner of the match in the 67th minute, and midfielder Luke Dunne added a calculation that won in the 90th year when Blues defeated Virginia Marauders, 3-1, in front of the crowd announced 7,453 at the Navy-Marin-Marin-Marin-Marin-Marin Navy-Marin-Marin Navy-Marin-Marin Navy-Marin-Marin Navy-Marin-Marin Navy-Marin-Marin
Midfielder and klink (Loyola Blakefield, North Carolina) scored another goal for Annapolis (7-4), which is still mathematically in a fight for one of the two playoffs from the Chesapeake division. The Blues remain in the fourth place with the remaining three matches and will need help to go up to second.
Champion the Chesapeake division that survives Lionsbridge FC (8-1-3) is in the first place, followed by Virginia Beach United (9-2-2) and Virginia Northern FC (7-1-3).
The Blues lost four matches in two seasons to capture the mid-Atlantic division championship in a row in the National Premier Football League. Annapolis moved to the second level of the United Soccer League this season and has found a more difficult competition.
“I see how we adjust to this schedule and I see the commitment of the players, and I am happy,” said Annapolis coach Colin Herriot. “You want to win every game, but I like the way we compete.”
Klink has just joined the Blues. Gatorade National Player of the Year made her first start and scored her first goal in a short time.
Midfielder Max Viera (Georgetown) held a perfect bait to Klink’s feet, which was behind his defender and burying a strong shot into a close corner past the arm that stretched out of the diving goalkeeper to give the Blues the 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.
“It is a great buildup of the team and a good appearance from Max. He is very smart and sneaks through it and I have an easy part,” Klink said. “You can’t ask for a better way to start the game.”
Viera and Klink were almost connected again a few minutes later with the first to send a crossroads to the front of the net. However, Klink could not handle feed and ball bounced off his feet and beyond the limits.
Herriot was impressed by Klink, which was very active and had some changes in dangerous scores. The Blues have seen six players called back by their college team for the past week, so the addition of Klink on time.
“To come to this environment and play like he did -very proud of Dan. He really lives at certain times,” Herriot said. “We have just received confirmation that and will be with us for the rest of the season, so he is a very good bonus for us.”
Virginia midfielder Gavin Shiels scored in the 58th minute to bind the score. The deepest throw was followed by two good operants to set Shiels, who played the ball in front for himself to get one by one with the goalkeeper. Annapolis guard Emigdio Tormo Lopez has come out of the net to challenge Shiels, who drives the ball over him and to a distance.
Klink has a golden opportunity to restore the advantage to Blues a few minutes later, but his header to the empty goal only widens from the goalpost. Geho did not miss in the 67th minute when he took the perfect road from Rafa Machado and deftly finished to a distant corner.
It was the sixth goal of this season for Geho, a Westminster citizen who has become a strength ahead.
Dunne scored a goal from a drama made by Tyler Gabarra (Broadneck, NC State), which brought the ball into the box and then touched it to the corner for colleague Ricky Schissler (Curley, Umbc).
Schissler fired a bait to Geho, whose dim efforts turned into a direct bait to Dunne. Salisbury and Boston University’s original prominent defeat the goalkeeper who fell from the front.
“We dominate the game for most of it, but not completing some very good situations in one third of the last day,” Herriot said. “They get equalizers and you think here we go. Great and great reactions from our people and great victory.”
