Excluded by FIFA, the European League built the European Union Political Alliance
June 20-Error absent and excluded by FIFA in a discussion about the international calendar and how the impact of the operation and financial structure of the domestic league in Europe, the European League organization has even moved closer to the European Union in a step to help protect European soccer systems.
European League President Claudius Schäfer, Vice President Mathieu Moreuil, and Secretary General Alberto Colombo met today (Friday) with Glenn Micallef, European Commissioner for Youth, Culture and Sports.
In the agenda is a problem that is focused on governance, war against online piracy, and the importance of values in the core of the European sports model.
With the FIFA Club World Cup now in full swing, a meeting that focuses on joint complaints submitted by the European League and FIFPRO Europe to the European Commission against FIFA regarding their unilateral decisions on the international match calendar.
The European League argument is that “FIFA’s rules and behavior are far from what is needed by the EU law, and gives birth to the economic interests of the national league, and the health and safety of players in European football.
“Legal challenges before the European Commission becomes the necessary action to protect the European soccer sector which is a power plant and global entertainment.”
There is no decision made by challenges but when it occurs it is likely to be harmonized with supporters of European sports models based on the structure of the pyramid where grassroots sports form the bottom of the pyramid, clubs and elite levels placed above, and the federation oversees and regulates the entire system.
FIFA, while the World Government Agency, is a threat to the model with the club’s world cup and its refusal to get involved with European leagues that give Star Club’s strength that encourages the interest and economy of its competition.
European leagues say that they “reiterate their commitment to the commissioner’s agenda to develop strategies to strengthen European sports models while supporting sustainable sports and financial ecosystems rooted in bankruptcy, integrity, sports services, and competition openness.
“The European league hopes to continue the constructive dialogue with the Micallef Commissioner while collaborating carefully throughout its mandate to promote a balanced and sustainable future for European football.”
It’s all very good but this FIFA version does what he wants in pursuing power, glory, and money. Whether this is done in accordance with his own law or not, because FIFA is not material and FIFA certainly does not show respect or concern for the European sports model, or for European clubs and league who created their global appeal.
How far the EU is ready to support the European League and its own commitment to the European sports model will be tested.
While the European league clearly that FIFA is an enemy inside, they are also concerned with enemies without, and especially broadcast piracy and threats to the sale of broadcast rights and how they can be better protected.
While the European League welcomed the recommendations of the European Commission about fighting online piracy and other direct events published in May 2023, they argue that the data shows that the only effective protection is through laws and laws that clearly protect their rights.
“The European league hopes to continue the constructive dialogue with the Micallef Commissioner while collaborating carefully throughout its mandate to promote a balanced and sustainable future for European football,” a statement said.
