FC Arkadag Claims FC Turkmenistan First AFC Challenge League Crown

13 May-FC Arkadag from Turkmenistan has carved their names into the history of Asian football, defeating Preah Khan Cambodia to reach SVay Rieng FC 2-1 after extra-time to claim the first Asian Football Confederation League (AFC) League title at the National Stadium Techo Phnom Penh.

The AFC challenge league, which was introduced as part of the big overhaul of the Asian club competition, was the third -level Continental Tournament Confederations. It was created to provide a competitive platform for clubs from the associations of members who emerged, expanding access to international football and accelerating development throughout Asia.

FC Arkadag’s victory marked an extraordinary ending for their debut campaign. After the Saparow mechanical gave the Turkmenistan team in 59 minutes, the balancing was late from Sareth Krya took the final to extend the time.

But with only eight minutes left, Altymyrat Annadurdyýew hit the winner to seal the title and continued Turkmenistan’s legacy in the AFC competition and followed the footsteps of FC HTTU and Balkan, the winner of the AFC Presidential Cup who now did not exist in 2014 and 2013 respectively.

AFC President Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa praised the achievement of Arkadag and the first edition that was successful in the tournament, underline the importance of the challenge league in the broader AFC vision for games in Asia.

“For the memory of the Asian Football Family, I want to congratulate FC Arkadag Turkmenistan about sealing the historic AFC challenge league crown and praise we must also go to the Turkmenistan soccer federation and the Cambodian football federation to create an exciting environment for their club to develop on the continental stage.”

He added: “This new historic chapter is impossible to write without unwavering support from our friendly host at the group stage, and I praise them all, and everyone who works behind the scenes, from beginning to end, because of their unity in ensuring the memorable AFC challenge season – which will strengthen the basis for us to measure new benches in the coming years.”
