Further sanctions were feared when Ajaccio was deployed to the third level of France
August 7 – The Korsika AC Ajaccio club, which played in Ligue 1, was new in 2023, will be deployed to the third level of French football after the club decided not to attract the French Olympic and National Sports Committee (CNOSF).
Last month, DNCG, French football financial supervisor, Ajaccio, who was relegated from Ligue 2 after the club failed to provide a bank guarantee of € 15 million and proof of liquidity. Ajaccio has until Wednesday to appeal to CNOSF’s decision but finally chose not to pursue the option.
Founded in 1910, the club now must present a detailed budget to play at Championaat National, the third level of the French Football Pyramid, and maintain their professional status.
But there are concerns that the club’s crisis can be deeper. The club is owned by an Ajaccio Imperial Corse investment, chaired by politician Corsican Alain Orsoni, who has insisted on sales to lawyers Arnau Baqué Roig is near. As a temporary solution, Orsoni said he promised to invest € 2.5 million in the club and act as a guarantor with a Scottish bank up to € 15 million. “We are almost sure to get approval because we fulfilled what was asked from us!” He claimed. “But the commission considers that this is not enough.”
Local media says € 2.5 million has not been stored and has questioned the legitimacy of € 15 million guarantees, while DNCG is expected to make decisions about the Championaat Ajaccio national participation soon.
With a degraded Ajaccio, Boulugne-Sur-Mer has been promoted to Ligue 2.
