German clubs from grassroots to Bundesliga support Euro 2029 bid with WE’29 Celebration Weekend

25 November – The German Football Association (DFB) mobilized domestic support for their bid to host UEFA Women’s Euro 2029 last weekend with a national campaign entitled ‘WE’29 Celebration Weekend’.

Clubs united in the men’s and women’s games to support the slogan ‘Together We Rise’.

Stadiums in the Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga, 3. Liga, Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga and 2. Frauen-Bundesliga showed their support through on-field activations and unified WE’29 moments. Grassroots clubs are also involved.

UEFA will vote on the 2029 hosts in a week’s time. The emphasis of Germany’s bid is on unity and comes due to continued support for women’s football in the country and following the launch of the ‘WE’29 Champions’ program last week. This weekend’s matches were well attended including more than 57,000 people at the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga opener between FC Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, and 37,000 people at Germany’s UEFA Women’s Nations League semi-final in Düsseldorf.

Organizers in Germany are capitalizing on increased fan engagement with women’s sport to push the boundaries of achievement following the success of this year’s sold-out women’s Euros in Switzerland.

Seven of the eight proposed stadiums have a capacity of more than 45,000, with projections of more than a million fans expected to attend.

DFB Vice President for Women’s and Girls’ Football, Heike Ullrich, said: “Every match, every club and every fan who takes part is part of something bigger. WE’29 is not just an offer—it is a movement to develop women’s football at every level. This weekend brings that spirit to life and shows the passion that exists in Germany in Europe.”

The DFB does not view hosting as a purely domestic opportunity, but has opened its doors to expanding knowledge-sharing opportunities across UEFA’s member associations.

“The WE’29 Celebration Weekend shows that support for this bid is overwhelming—from the Bundesliga and Frauen Bundesliga to local clubs in every region. This is a celebration of what we have built together and a statement of intent about where we want to go. The German football union is one of our greatest strengths, and that is clear to see,” said DFB President Bernd Neuendorf.
