Kairaty, Pafos, and Bodo/Glimt brought a new look to the Champions League lottery

August 27 -The last slot for Draw Champions League Draw lottery is to fill in and new names secure places at the top level of the world’s leading club competition. The lottery will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at Monaco.

Kairaty Almaty removed Celtic Glasgow from the penalty to qualify for the next phase, marking the return of Kazakh football to the European main club competition, which will also see PAFO Cyprus and Bodo/wrong from Norwegian participating for the first time.

Kairat Kairat Almaty Temiran Anarbekov proved to be a hero for the Kazakh champion after he kept three penalties for Almaty to win the 3-2 shootout and advance to the Champions League for the first time in their history. More than two legs, Almaty and Celtic have played two goals without a goal.

Celtic manager Glasgow called the defeat as a “big blow” for the club. He said: “We showed last year the steps that I felt we took, but you have to build it. The last thing you want to do in football is to make your own stress, but what we can do now is see where we are as football clubs and decide where we want to go.

“This is very frustrated. We show a glimpse of what we can do at this level last season but we have not been able to show that during these two matches. This is very disappointing because we were on the right track last season, working very well and playing good soccer.

“So not to be there this season is a big blow for us. We all know the consequences if we don’t win the tie. We want to be in the Champions League.”

Bodo/Glimt drove past Sturm Graz from Austria, advancing 6-2 aggregate despite the 2-1 defeat in the second leg in Austria. Qualifications are the coronation for clubs that have made waves in Norway and so on in the last few seasons. Cyprus Pafos champion gave his own surprise with 89 minutes attack from Brazilian forward Jajá to secure a 1-1 draw at home against Red Star Belgrade, European champions in 1999, and send clubs through 3-2 aggregate.

Almaty, Pafos, and Almaty will join European champions Paris Saint-Germain and other continental heavyweight in the lottery. The Kazakh club will step into the footsteps of FC Astana, which was decades ago, completed from a group that Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray and Benfica. They did it, however, after claiming four lottery, more than honorable results for debutants.
