Midfielder Form is Very Important for Club and Country
Casemiro’s performance for Manchester United was quite good. The defensive midfielder from Brazil, who will turn 34 in a few months, has enjoyed quite an enjoyable time with the Red Devils this season. After a somewhat disappointing 2024/25 season that left many questioning the reasons for his signing for the Red Devils, Casemiro has featured in the starting XI regularly. Casemiro’s form is one of the reasons behind United’s improved form this season.
The Brazilian thrived in a somewhat challenging double-pivot that also featured Bruno Fernandes. He usually doesn’t play the whole game these days, but his influence is still quite strong. Casemiro’s improved performance is certainly good news for the Red Devils.
Casemiro’s Performance Is Now Good for Club and Country
Casemiro has scored three goals in 10 games for Manchester United this season, as well as providing solidity to his side’s defence. The Brazilian is a constant threat from set pieces and loves to score with headers from free kicks into the opponent’s penalty box.
The 33-year-old Brazilian scored from a free kick in a recent international friendly against Senegal. Brazil won the match 2-0 and continued their good run against Carlo Ancelotti. Casemiro is Brazil’s most experienced player at the moment with 81 caps and his wealth of experience will be needed at next year’s World Cup.
If we compare Casemiro’s performance at Real Madrid and Manchester United, we will find that his goal ratio is better at Manchester United. His 20 goals in 135 games for United forms a better ratio than his 31 goals in 336 appearances for Real.
Suddenly he was no longer as fast as he used to be at Real, nor could his achievements compare to those at Madrid, where he won every award as a footballer. He plays in Real Madrid’s midfield three, with high-quality players such as the recently retired Toni Kroos and Luka Modric alongside him.
Kroos often defends at the back, which means Casemiro has a friend in stopping the opponent’s attacks.
In comparison, he had to share more of the workload at United, as he played in a two-man midfield and Bruno Fernandes was not a good defender either. Toni Kroos’ defensive quality is better than Bruno Fernandes, which means Casemiro’s task is tougher at his current club.
Will Elliot Anderson Replace Casemiro?
With Manuel Ugarte failing to impress and Kobbie Mainoo out of favor with Ruben Amorim, United may need a defensive midfielder for long-term needs. Casemiro’s contract expires in 2026 and as such, the Red Devils are reportedly eyeing Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson as his long-term replacement.
However, until he leaves, it will be up to players of his caliber to continue to contribute to the club. Manchester United will be aiming for a place in European football next season and for them to achieve that, Casemiro will need to maintain his current form.
The next year or so is crucial for the Brazilian to enhance his legacy as a footballer. It remains to be seen whether he is able to do so in that time frame.
