PSG and Flamengo prepare for the Intercontinental Cup Final, the Arabian Cup breaking attendance records

17 December – Qatar is once again the focus of the FIFA world as it prepares to host two FIFA finals in two consecutive days. The first is the Intercontinental Cup Final between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Flamengo tonight.

UEFA Champions League winners PSG pre-qualified for the final, while Copa Libertadores winners Flamengo beat Mexico’s Cruz Azul and then Egypt’s Pyramids FC to qualify.

The final of the club competition will be played at the 40,000 capacity Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium in Doha.

On September 18, attention will be focused on the Arab Cup final between Morocco and Jordan at Lusail Stadium, where the 2022 World Cup final will take place.

Both countries qualified for the 2026 World Cup. Morocco advanced to the Arab Cup final with wins over Syria in the quarterfinals and the UAE in the semifinals. Jordan, the breakout team of the AFC confederation, beat Iraq and Saudi Arabia to qualify for the final. In 2024 Jordan lost to Qatar in the Asian Cup final.

The second edition of the Arab Cup proved to be a great success, continuing the inaugural competition which was held in 2021 in Qatar as a test event for the 2022 World Cup.

This is most clearly seen from the attendance figures which have reached more than 1 million fans attending matches, an increase of 257% from attendance figures in 2021.

The four quarter-finals attracted a total of 210,274 spectators, while the combined attendance for the 28 group stage matches and the quarter-finals reached 1,022,592 spectators.

The tournament was attended by 401,339 spectators in its first 28 matches. The total number of fans attending group stage and quarter-final matches in 2025 was 2.55 times higher than the same figure in the 2021 tournament.

The two semifinals drew a total of 96,723 fans on Monday, bringing the total tournament attendance to 1,119,315 fans across 30 games for an average attendance of 37,310 fans per game.

With the third-place match and final, taking place on Thursday, Qatar National Day, the total audience for all 32 Arabian Cup matches is likely to surpass the 1.2 million mark.
