Ruben Amorim Must Capitalize on Statement Win at Anfield

The Liverpool vs Manchester United match ended with a 2-1 win for the Red Devils at Anfield, Sunday 19 October. A rare win for Manchester United against Liverpool as Harry Maguire’s header sealed their victory after Cody Gakpo canceled out Bryan Mbeumo’s opener.

Liverpool then suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions. The English champions are going through a minor crisis at the moment and are fourth in the league table with 15 points from eight games. Meanwhile, United is in ninth place with 13 points from eight matches.

Liverpool vs Manchester United: Red Devils’ Desire Increases

There was a lot of passion in Manchester United’s performance on Sunday in the Liverpool vs Manchester United match. They got the opener within minutes of the start, when Amad Diallo found Mbeumo with a neat pass through the inside right channel to finish past Giorgi Mamardashvili.

United were very active with their attacks down the right, with right wing-back Amad, and Mbeumo, the right winger, combining very well. However, Amad’s frequent overlaps meant that he could not often retreat to guard Liverpool’s left winger, Gakpo. Liverpool appeared threatening through their counter-attacks, Gakpo often took advantage of the space left by Amad.

Amad fixed that in the second half and started marking Gakpo more often. Moreover, United slowed down the tempo of the game to continue to thwart Liverpool’s attempts to attack them with speed. The extra man in defence, when the wing-backs dropped back, helped them deal with Liverpool’s front three.

Liverpool brought on Hugo Ekitike, Federico Chiesa and Curtis Jones as substitutes in an attempt to restore balance. Ekitike’s runs through the inside-left channel often troubled the Manchester United defense, and one of them paved the way for an equaliser.

Just when it looked like the Reds had done enough to get a point, Maguire’s header restored the visitors’ lead, which they managed to maintain. This was another occasion when Maguire scored a vital late goal to win the game for his team.

Manchester United Must Build Momentum

United have now won consecutive games in the Premier League for the first time under Amorim. They must capitalize on the momentum of their victory in the Liverpool vs Manchester United match and try to improve their position in the league table.

United will play Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest in their next two matches. Both teams could be tough opponents, but winning both games would move Amorim’s squad closer to the top six.

A performance like the one United showed against Liverpool will see them through in their next two games, provided they can repeat that. The Amorim squad has gone through tough times in the past, but now is the time to make amends.

If they can turn things around, it will be a huge relief for United fans, who have become accustomed to recent setbacks. Finishing the game with a healthy position in the league table will ease their pain considerably.
