UEFA launched a joint study on the impact of increasing the player’s workload

June 29-With the current club World Cup in the last 16 stages and European clubs dominate, UEFA, supported by European club associations, the European League and Fifpro Europe, have launched a “scientific and encouraged data” into the workload of players and welfare.

Many European players, coaches and clubs complain that the expanded international competition encourages their players to be outside the safe limits. This study will be the first of football stakeholders to try to determine what limits is quantitatively.

This study will begin by defining the concept of ‘burden’ in the football of Men and Women European elites, as well as understanding the impact related if needed.

“The initiative from UEFA forms a central component, in addition to focused involvement through other platforms, from a joint commitment by UEFA, the European club association, European League and European FIFPRO to protect the games and welfare of the players,” UEFA said.

UEFA said players, coaches, medical staff, and other related groups will contribute to the assessment of related ‘burden’ factors, including various types of injuries, level of performance, and the welfare of players.

This study will analyze historical data, assess changes in regulations and calendars, as well as technical trends and performance from time to time that might have an impact on player injuries and mental well -being.

“Scientific papers reviewed by peer-review and practical recommendations will be produced, offering guidance to those who are responsible for decision making in the field of competition and in developing policies that can reduce the influence of various aspects of burden,” UEFA said.

No time line is given for the completion of the research.
