Who is the Premier League Player of the Season So Far?

Who has been the Premier League’s best player this season so far? There aren’t too many candidates for the title, as few new players have flattered to cheat so far. Players like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak have broken records in terms of transfer fees, but have not lived up to expectations on the pitch.

Goalkeepers Gianluigi Donnarumma and Senne Lammens have performed well for their respective Manchester clubs, City and United. Tijjani Reijnders has given his best performance for The Citizens, while Jeremie Frimpong has started to give his best performance for Liverpool. However, to date, the Premier League’s best signing options this season have narrowed down to three players. Let’s see:

Who Are the Signees This Season?

#3. Bryan Mbeumo

Mbeumo was brought in by Manchester United from Brentford and the 26 year old Cameroonian has been quite successful for his new club so far. He has played on the right behind the striker in United’s 3-4-2-1 formation and scored seven goals and recorded one assist in 17 games for them so far.

Mbeumo has a lethal left foot and the ability to finish far corners of the net with it. He is also relentless in his approach and is a true team player. All of this confirmed his place in the starting XI for Ruben Amorim’s team. The Cameroonian is playing in the AFCON at the moment, and his club is really missing him. He is a genuine candidate for this season’s signing.

#2. Rayan Cherki

Manchester City signed Cherki from Lyon before the start of the season and so far have no regrets about the decision. Cherki came on to replace Kevin De Bruyne, which was clearly not an easy task.

However, until now, Pep Guardiola still feels justified in recruiting the 22 year old French player. Cherki has scored five goals and registered eight assists in 19 games for the Citizens so far, impressing with his ball and passing skills. No player has recorded more assists this season.

He has combined very well with Phil Foden and is improving almost every week. The way Cherki glides with the ball at his feet is worth watching. Midway through the season, he remains a top contender for this season’s signing.

#1. Hugo Ekitike

Ekitike went fairly unnoticed at the start of the season, as his signing by Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt was overshadowed by the signings of Wirtz and Isak, both worth over £100m.

However, since the season started, the 23-year-old French player has emerged as the Reds’ star player. Ekitike has scored 11 goals and recorded three assists in 25 matches so far.

He mainly played as a number 9 due to Isak’s absence due to poor form or injury. The Frenchman has seized the opportunities that have come his way with both hands and has managed to earn a place in France’s World Cup squad for next year’s tournament.

Therefore, Ekitike can probably be called the forerunner of this season’s signing from now on/
