Beautiful relics with brutal heritage

Last week, while walking through Notting Hill, I found several antique shops and saw something interesting – leather soccer from the 1930s in perfect condition. I was immediately interested in him and seriously considering buying it.

Unfortunately, the shop owner continues to change the price, so I retreat.

Who said, because I immediately moved to London, I was sure I would finally get it. However, the whole meeting made me ask me: why do we stop using these leather balls, and how do they affect the game?

What is the ball of the skin?

Classic leather balls are made of heavy cow leather, usually brown. Style and full of character, of course – but it is a nightmare in terms of performance according to current standards.

It was much heavier than modern football, making it more difficult to control, pass, and shoot.

Agility and acrobat? Forget it.

I watched this new Youtube video where a player tries to take pictures with leather balls – his strength and curve far.

When he turned to the goalkeeper, the ball almost injured his hand. That is not a joke.

Weakness of the skin

One main weakness: the skin ball absorbs water. On rain days – which, to be honest, is common during the match – the ball will become flooded and behave more like a bowling ball than soccer.

Some players suffer from a serious head injury or long -term trauma because of it. Some even spent the season because of the matches soaked in rain.

Another problem is producing inconsistency.

In the 1930s, ball production did not have standardization. Even FIFA has not set strict guidelines at that time. Every country, and sometimes even every team, carrying the ball itself.

Famous example: The 1930 World Cup final between Argentina and Uruguay.

There is a dispute about which ball will be used, so they play the first round with Argentina and the second with Uruguay. Uruguay returned to win, and many Argentines blame the soccer switch for their defeat.

Can the old legend compete today?

After completing my research on leather balls, I asked myself, “What if players from the past use balls and modern equipment? Will they be better or worse?”

In terms of raw strength and strength, it must be better. These people play with cannon balls on a rough field. Their physical conditioning must be crazy.

Imagine their shots in today’s game: really deadly.

But in terms of dribbling, speed, and technical skills? I think they will fight. Modern players are faster, sharper, and more trained in ball control.

So, don’t be offended by the romance of football, but I will not compile a defender in the 1930s into the Premier League squad today – even with a time machine.

Last thought

Like I admire the expertise and aesthetics of old leather balls, it’s not something I want to use in real matches.

Too dangerous, too unexpected – and I don’t want to explain to my boss why I came out with a concussion from the “friendly” game!

Still, I want to buy one for decoration. Vintage objects like that can change the vibration of the room. Who knows? Maybe it will even trigger a little creative inspiration.

My next entry will dive into the FC26 new career fashion feature. From what I see, there is no innovative change, but I will try it myself before jumping to the conclusion.

Keep watching!
